Description

This lesson is part of a larger series of lessons focusing on movement of organic matter and chemical energy via digestion and biosynthesis. Students develop hypotheses about how matter moves and changes and how energy changes when mealworms eat, move, and grow. This is a fully NGSS-aligned unit, with storyline supports, rubrics, and video resources.

Helping students understand how matter and energy move through ecosystems and organisms can be difficult; this lesson helps student visualize and measure that process with easy to rear mealworms. The lesson is well documented with many supports, including videos and rubrics! The only thing we can find to criticize is that the larger curriculum that this is a unit in doesn’t have more insect examples 🙂
