These two small books from the University of Florida contain slightly different versions of 13 activities focusing on Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths). Many of the creative crafts in the materials can also be done at home with parents. Students explore core concepts such as metamorphosis, pheromone communication, and camouflage through a series of crafts and exercises.

This downloadable packet has many great craft activities for elementary students that also help learning. The coverage of metamorphosis is especially good, with a mobile and coloring pages. We would like to see more connections between the activities, and more incorporation of students’ prior ideas, or student reflection questions to stimulate discussion about what they learn.
