Description

This lesson plan covers a number of common “pest” insects, such as mosquitoes and cockroaches. Alongside readings, students complete guided discussions and experiments to explore these animals. Students can use the included diagrams of complete and incomplete metamorphoses as coloring sheets.

This lesson has a good core idea: things that are pests in our homes/schools are animals that started with an outdoor habitat, and adapted to live with humans. However, that idea is developed inconsistently through the lesson, with rather a lot of reading rather than inquiry. There are standards mentioned, but we don’t see evidence of three-dimensional learning that we would expect in an NGSS aligned lesson.
