Yellow Pan Trap Experiment

(1 review)

This experiment involves setting up yellow pan traps in order to investigate the diversity of chalcid wasps in various environments. It includes a presentation in four parts, defining biodiversity and emphasizing the importance of Hymenoptera. It encourages students to learn collecting and pinning methods that are commonly used in the entomological field. A teacher’s guide, a student’s guide, and other visual materials are also provided.

This experiment would take about 2-4 hours and can be adapted to investigate a wide variety of insects, not just chalcid wasps.

There are fantastic ideas for experiments in this resource! However, it needs additional development. There are no state or NGSS standards present for the activities, and it relies rather heavily on a Powerpoint presentation for information transfer.
