Grasshopper Paper Dissection

(1 review)

This is a very nice way to teach insect anatomy without the mess of actual preserved specimens. This dissection model can be used as a pre-dissection study tool, a review for a practical, or as a summative assessment for comparative anatomy. Students will cut out, assemble, and identify and explain the structure and function of  internal and external grasshopper anatomy.

Please note that this is not a free resource. The artists who create it ask a reasonable (we think) licensing fee. The materials come with extensive documentation. This includes both color and black and white templates, PPT slides, and a Google Classroom link.

We don’t usually recommend resources that are commercial, but our field testers really loved this dissection. They felt like it was a perfect review for a real dissection, and helped them visualize how all the parts went together. Learning anatomy can be overwhelming; there are lots of specialized terms. Doing it as a craft allows more room for creativity (coloring and assembly).
